An exciting new endeavor being undertaken by the Dairy Sheep Association of North America (DSANA) was announced during their annual Symposium last week: The Dairy Sheep Genetics Improvement
Project!
One of the primary goals of the project is to assist in translating performance records into tools for genetic improvement in dairy sheep operations. This will help improve profitability for both producers and processors but optimizing yields, tailoring composition to processors’ needs and assisting with the sustainability of this growing agricultural sector. By partnering with GenOvis and the Rocky Mountain Dairy Herd Improvement Assoc (DHIA), along with guidance from the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR), this comprehensive program will support the burgeoning dairy sheep milk producers and processors!
